The 21-year-old beauty from Isabela is the first Asian to win in the fifth edition of the pageant, touted as the fifth biggest beauty contest in the world after Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss International and Miss Earth. She’s taking home the crown, sash and USD 25,000. Mutya bested 83 other candidates in the pageant held at the chilly country in Eastern Europe.
Before she left for Minsk mid-August, the reigning queen explained that her signature walk is inspired by her native salagubang back in the province. Other beauties emerged in the top five were Miss Mexico (1st runner-up), Miss Turkey (2nd runner-up), Miss Indonesia (3rd runner-up) and Miss US Virgin Islands (4th runner-up). Early in the competition, Mutya has shown the making of a beauty queen when she bagged the Miss Supranational Personality Award.
Other delegates who won special awards were Sweden - Miss Elegance, Moldova - Miss Top Model, Puerto Rico - Miss Photogenic, Nicaragua - Miss National Dress, Malaysia - Miss Talent, Miss Friendship - Macau, Miss Internet - Myanmar, Miss Asia and Oceania - Australia, Miss America - Brazil, Miss Europe - Belarus, and Miss Africa - Gabon.
