Edward continued that he was also close to Hayden Kho, Dr. Vicki’s ex-boyfriend. When the news broke out that Dr. Vicki and Hayden had called it quits, Edward was also rumored as the third party, along with another friend Al Galang. However, both Al and Edward clarified that they were just friends with Dr. Vicki, and that there was no romantic involvement.
Now that Edward has fully embraced showbiz, he said that he has prepared himself for issues that will link him to Dr. Vicki. “Kahit ano’ng mangyari pagpasok ko sa showbiz, hindi na maiiwasan kasi masyado na akong close sa kanya at sa family niya. So I look at it in a positive way na rin at ‘yung feedback ng mga tao okay naman. So mas focused ako more sa show and learning from it also. I can use it as my stepping stone for my upcoming projects,” Edward explained.
He added that he and Dr. Vicki take the nasty rumor with a grain of salt. “Actually, pinagtatawanan lang namin ‘yon kasi it’s nothing new to her. Pero syempre ako naga-adjust ako but I realized na ganito talaga ang parte ng pagiging showbiz. So I look at it in a positive way na lang at saka hindi ko rin babaguhin ang pakikisama ko sa kanya because people think this way, kasi whether we like it or not. Hindi namin maiiwasan na magkaroon ng ganitong pag-iisip o pangyayari.”
The fitness and wellness director also clarified that he was not supposed to appear on GGV last Sunday. “Nakakatawa, hindi naman planado ‘yun, eh. I was part of the audience kasi kasama ako sa entourage niya (Dr. Vicki) kasi we came from the house dinner with her, kasama ‘yung friends niya. Tapos sabi niya, ‘Hey, if you are not doing anything, sumama ka na rin sa studio.’ So nagulat na lang ako na naging part ako ng guesting. Masaya rin, it’s a good experience and siguro it’s a good way to promote the show (Hiyas).”
To the issue if he is Dr. Vicki’s boyfriend, Edward answered, “Boyfriend niya ako in a platonic way, I’m very close to her. Like I said I try to look at things in a positive way, so siguro hindi ko na ‘yun pag-iisipan pa. Kumbaga mas focused ako at mas thankful sa magandang blessings na dumarating.
“She’s girlfriend-material for any guy who is looking for love. Ang sa amin lang, na-develop lang into friendship, so mahirap talagang ibahin ‘yon. Ayoko lang gumawa ng move na maapektuhan ‘yung binuild up namin. Napaka-espesyal ‘yung pagkakaibigan namin na tinuturing siyang family, ayokong masira ‘yon.”
Just like any good friend, Edward is all for Dr. Vicki’s happiness and the budding actor said that he would support the doctor if she finds another boyfriend.
Furthermore, he said that Dr. Vicki does not need to apologize to him for the issue because it was not her fault. “Ang sa akin lang, kahit mangyari sa akin ‘yon [na] ma-drag ako [o] magkaroon ng isyu, mas iniisip ko kung okay ba siya, moving on from Hayden.”
As to the possibility of bringing his friendship with Dr. Vicki a notch higher, Edward answered, “Like I said sa Vice Ganda (show) wala namang imposible. You can never say [anything] nang patapos, but sinasabi ko for now consistently, ‘yung pakikisama namin sa isa’t-isa [ang mahalaga].”
As for his showbiz endeavors, Edward shared that he is still adjusting, especially when it comes to handling intrigues. However, more than these issues, he said that he is focused on making himself a better actor. “Now I’m learning so much. Ino-observe ko ‘yung mga tao sa paligid ko and maliban sa Hiyas, I was given the privilege to work with Piolo Pascual sa Dahil Sa Pag-ibig, playing as a priest (as best friend of Piolo’s character) so nao-observe ko sila and I’m learning from them and maganda talaga ang pagpasok ko sa showbiz.”
Work on Precious Hearts Romances Presents: Hiyas was completed last year so Edward is happy that his biggest project so far will finally air starting this coming Monday, May 28 in the afternoon slot.
