Slater Young admits he now has his family’s approval to enter showbiz

After being declared Pinoy Big Brother’s newest Big Winner, the “Hot Shot Guy of Cebu” housemate Slater Young admitted that that he is now looking towards a career in show business. Although his family initially showed reluctance of him putting his career as a civil engineer on hold, Slater said they have changed their minds now that he has come out of the PBB house.

“Actually before ako pumasok sa PBB, yun sana yung gusto nila mangyari pero ngayon sobrang supportive sila. Gustong-gusto nila yung lahat ng nangyayari sa akin and it’s a big compliment din talaga to my family kasi na naging Big Winner ako so they’re very happy and very proud,” he shared.

The 24-year-old said his family is also very proud of how he behaved inside the house, which won him a lot of fans which ultimately led to a landslide victory. “They’re very happy. Sobrang supportive sila. Yung mom ko ‘pag magkasama kami binabasa niya yugn mga comments sa Twitter kasi maganda yung mga comments eh. Kahit nung isang araw may lumapit sa akin na sabi, ‘Please keep up the good work,’ kasi parang somehow naging role model daw ako so pressure din,” he said.

Although it’s no secret that he comes from a well-to-do family who owns their own construction business in the South, Slater said that had nothing to do with him amassing 40% of the total votes during PBB’s finale. “Actually maganda kuwento nung tatay ko sa akin after ng Big Night, sinabi niya yung nag-vote lang talaga sila ng todo nung malapit na sa dulo. Dun sa first few weeks nung nominated ako ng first few times, hindi talaga sila nag-campaign, yung sim lang ginagamit nila na pamboto kasi gusto nila muna makita kung gusto ba talaga ako ng taong bayan. Wala naman akong nakitang maraming sim (laughs),” he admitted.

Slater said that he plans to allot a big chunk of his P2M prize money towards the tuition fees of their employees’ children. “I’m going to help educate yung anak ng mga employees namin na matagal na sa amin. Tutulungan namin sila. Nag-usap na kami ng dad ko and that’s a big part of my winnings. Kasi sa company namin, bago pa ako nag-PBB, may parang scholarship kami sa mga employees namin na yung mga anak nila pinapag-aral namin. Nag-usap kami ng dad ko na gustoi ko tumulong kasi ang karamihan ng mga anak nila gusto mag-Engineering din so tinutulungan ko,” he explained.

Currently, Slater has been busy with guest appearances on various shows on the Kapamilya network, but he eventually hopes to be given projects that will show off his acting abilities. “Everything is like parang panaginip, parang hindi totoo. I’d love to try acting and kung kaya ko maging part ng showbiz. I’d love to do it. I’d like to try more on acting. Nakapag-workshop ako just to know if magugustuhan ko ba or hindi and sobrang nagustuhan ko. I’d rather be an actor talaga pero yung hosting is interesting din. For the past few days I’ve been getting comments about it. I’ve never tried pa kasi so I want to try it din,” he said.
